How to Rent in NYC

New York is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.  Finding an apartment here can prove to be daunting if you are not prepared!  Local tenant laws, low vacancy rates and a highly competitive marketplace can add up to an interesting experience when searching for that next perfect home.  Whether this is your first time renting or you are a lifelong New Yorker, this step by step guide can help you understand what is involved in the rental process and answer any questions that you may have.

What documents are required?

~ Application: Village Living Realty will provide you with this form once a listing has been selected.

~ Letter of employment:  This letter should be on company letterhead with a current date.  The letter should state job title, length of employment and income.

~ If self-employed, a letter from a Certified Public Accountant on company letterhead verifying nature of business and income amount for the last two years.

~ Two most recent pay stubs.

~ Tax return.  Most recent and the first two pages only.

~ Bank Statement: Most recent statement with your name and address on the document

~ Credit Report: A reprecentative from our office or the landlord will run a credit check.

Will I need a Guarantor?
